Over the past year, a Noise Mitigation Plan (N.M.P.) was drawn up for the areas near the motorway, in line with the provisions of Law 447/95 and according to the criteria laid down in the Decree of 29th November 2000 by the Ministry of the Environment and the subsequent Presidential Decree no. 142 of 30th March 2004. The plan, consisting in a survey of noise levels in the areas of reference as required by existing legislation followed by the drawing up a targeted programme to reduce noise pollution, was sent to all interested Municipalities in June and it was submitted for approval to Region Friuli Venezia Giulia and Region Veneto and to the Ministry of the Environment. This analysis has produced a classification of noise levels, in compliance with the requirements of the law. Part of the actions to be undertaken in order to mitigate noise pollution also concern motorway sections that will soon be undergoing upgrading works (third lane on the A4 and Villesse – Gorizia), therefore the noise analysis was broken down into sections that are not interested by upgrading plans and sections for which works are envisaged.

The overall investment is estimated at € 90,972,892.56, of which € 39,823,808.94 for noise dampening barriers in sections that are not part of the network upgrading plan, € 44,293,065.24 for noise reduction barriers to be positioned in sections interested by the construction of the third lane on the A4, and € 6,856,018.38 for noise barriers that are part of the upgrading plan for the Villesse – Gorizia stretch. The overall costs – including unexpected events, removal of obstacles, expropriation and general expenses - is estimated at € 122,267,567.60. Upon the approval of the N.M.P. by the Board of Directors, the executive planning was undertaken in earnest for the works to be undertaken in the Municipalities of Duino and Campoformido, the ones with the highest noise levels.
New “Information to the Public” area for Noise Mitigation on the Autovie Venete Website
Innovative technology to map Municipalities to analyse Autovie Venete’s Noise Mitigation Projects. Pursuant to art. 8 (“Information and Assistance to the Public”) of Legislative Decree no. 194/05 “Implementation of Directive 2002/49/EC on the assessment and management of environmental noise”, Autovie Venete makes available on the internet the Noise Map and the Action Plans concerning its infrastructures. In order to facilitate communication with the public, Autovie Venete has put in place an innovative system to provide 3D representation of the results of the noise mapping carried out on its entire network, as well as of the situation that will result from the implementation of the Action Plan. In these 3D representations, special colours have been used to identify motorway-generated noise levels both at this time and in the future: additionally a map was drawn up to highlight the benefits deriving from the noise mitigation works envisaged in the Action Plan.
