A new service from Autovie Venete to make traffic smoother on the motorway network
Is traffic running smoothly on a certain stretch or is it slowed down or stuck? From 1st May 2004, in addition to the information available online at www.autovie.it, a new system is available to learn about traffic conditions on the Autovie Venete motorway network. Travelling times between one destination and the next are updated in real time on the variable message panels positioned at the entry points and at toll stations. This advanced system - that required considerable efforts to design both in terms of hardware and software - mostly relies on Telepass lanes information, in addition to ten new posts equipped with special directional antennae positioned on motorway toll gates. The technical features of the antenna serve to promptly detect and identify all the vehicles in transit, thus reducing the margin of error to a bare minimum.
The double reading, upon entry and in transit, allows for greater data uniformity that, once recorded and sent automatically to the Autovie’s Operations Centre in Palmanova, are then processed according to complex algorithms, turned into information and sent to the variable message panels. So that, when you enter the motorway, you can learn beforehand how long it will take you to reach your destination and, if the travelling time indicated on the panel is higher than average, you may decide to take an alternate route or to choose a different exit. Autovie invested 456,000 Euros in this project, developed entirely in-house by the company’s engineers. The new service is the latest in a series of innovations that the Company has put in place to better serve its customers and it is part of a safety package approved last year on which the Company has placed great emphasis.
